Keeping the house cool part 3 - Dyson Pure Cool
In late 2017 I realised that we would need something to keep us cool in the hot weeks in the northern hemisphere summer of 2018. there was very little around that was smart. I do have a penchant for nice design though, especially when it also delivers and I include Dyson products in this. It just so happened that Dyson were doing a deal on refurbished product so I bought 2 Dyson Pure Cool devices.
These are not great for a large room. However, put them in a small room with a fan running too and it can get pretty cool!
Only issue? Not HomeKit compatible. Since I bought these, Dyson has added support for shortcuts though. However, for home automation, I've found shortcuts to be of limited use as I want to affect things for everyone, not just myself.
Once again, Homebridge to the rescue. There are a few Dyson plugins, but the one I use is homebridge-dyson-pure-cool. This does require having an account on Dyson and connecting to that account over the net. You may not like to do that, so it is possible to run the device locally.
As you can see, there are all kinds of options to set up, and you get quite a few accessories set up in Homebridge. These get translated into HomeKit:
With these, I have found no real reason to automate them, and just leave it to user preference, especially in the Guest Bedroom.
It is still useful, though, to see if they have been left on by accident.
