Extendable Philips Hue Lightstrip outdoors

Philips Hue has 2 kinds of Lightstrip. Indoors and outdoors.

The outdoors one is not extendable, and has only two lengths of 80"/2.03m or 197"/5m.

This was no good for me, when I needed a total length of 374"/9.5m and I only had a single power source.

Also, 80" of outdoor is (US)$90 and indoor is (US)$50 at list price.

You can also cut the indoor version, and add extension cables between portions, to make it easy to go around corners, and re-attach sections of lightstrip.

The solution was to put the indoor lightstrip inside a protective covering so it would not be impacted by the elements.

Taking a look around, I found the Muzata system for installing Philips Hue light strips. I used the following, from Amazon:

It ended up working out much cheaper than Hue, and I got exactly the lighting I wanted.

I've used a couple of left over pieces to show what I did. Here I have the connector going around the corner and connecting to a section of Hue Lighstrip I had left over. The corner section is actually held in a mounting clip, which also takes the end of the 3.3ft/1m section.

This was Hue Lightstrip V2. The new V4 is much easier to connect sections together and Philips Hue even provide the connectors. It's good to see they were listening to their customers.

Here, I've added the translucent cover, so you can see what it looks like with the cover on

This is as actually installed on my rear deck.... of course, this has just made me realise I have to repaint the wood.... but you get the idea.

Now I will say that the power supply is protected under the awning of my roof, so I'm not worried about it getting wet.
